Temporary Anchorage Devices – Micro Implants

The orthodontic temporary anchorage device (TAD) is a miniature micro-implant that is temporarily fixed to the bone to accomplish difficult tooth movement. In certain cases, TADs can reduce treatment time, simplify orthodontic treatment, improve results or provide an alternative to surgical correction or implants.

Dr. Newhart is one of the few orthodontists in Southern California using advanced techniques such as TAD’s to accomplish tooth movement that would otherwise not be possible with conventional orthodontics.

Our office is also capable of treating many Invisalign cases that would otherwise not be candidates because we can incorporate the use of TAD’s with the aligners.

The procedure takes about 20-30 minutes and is accomplished painlessly under local anesthesia.

The micro-implant is removed when orthodontic treatment is completed. It takes less than a minute to remove it, and causes no pain.
